David Taylor - The Pledge On The Edge

David Taylor - The Pledge On The Edge

I stand on the edge br of what seems a deep abyss, br with your gentle rhythmic sound br that I hold to my inmost breast br and quietly in my mind I say br ' I will cleave to you come what may'. br You take flight with such subtle sound br as by this thought you are unbound. br You take me by the hand, br not falling we soar into another land br pure radiant light and stillness br all around abounds. br br Left standing on the edge br a mind of discontent br and body straight not bent. br Our journey halts in just being br with sure and certain knowing br not separate from I, no different br as much as any difference br could give rise to an experience. br The knowing did not say, just knew br there is no death or birth, br no essence that returns to dusty earth. br br And he left standing on the edge, br the one that made a pledge. br He will do as he must br until life's force is fully spent br and the mortal body returns to dust. br just as, of course, it must. br br Returning to the mortal mind br waiting at the edge of that abyss br it says it is not my domain, br in this mind it has no name. br Live where you will br in my world of discursive thoughts br or leave me far behind, br wed to that gentle rhythmic sound br that beats in regions where br this mind of mine just is not found br where the heart it has its home br but this mind, it cannot go.
