Bob Gibson - Discovery

I looked out, into the darkened night br The ship Discovery was in sight br In its orbital path I see br A pinpoint of light looking down on me br br My mind goes back, nigh on forty years br mine, eyes start to fill with tears br The Russian Sputnik, on her maiden flight br I saw! with my dad, that night br br down a country lane, we watched it pass br laid on a blanket, on the grass br as Dad pointed out which consolation br I was was filled with admiration br br Orion's belt, The Plough, and mars br This was my introduction to the stars br Binoculars, star charts, and flask of tea br I loved that time, just my Dad an me br br Out of the night a car pulled by br A Young couple had a reason why br Then a police car stopped as well br My Dads jaw dropped, I could tell br br Wots going on ere! the policeman said! br As he spied me and Dad, on our grass bed br You two perving at this young pair? br Nowt better ter do than ter sit and stare! br br The star chart saved us from being arrested br My dad an my innocence, had been contested br Off yer go! now get yersels home br This is a loves lane, not a Spacedrome br br Discovery's gone now, and so has my Dad br But I still remember the times we had br Orion's Belt is still as bright br As I look to the stars at night br br Bob Gibsonbr br Bob Gibsonbr br
