Diana Poems - Hard Times (from Michigan)

In these hard times br Of unreported unemployed voices br Of ignored college graduates br Of desperate youth br As well as desperate old br In these times br Education is overlooked br Pale profit wins over ethics br Our youth gets pushed further br Further away from their hard earned achievements br Further away from their intricate dreams br In these times br Fresh bread is left behind to turn into mold br Experience overtakes knowledge br Education becomes a burden br The educated are the punished br When they should be awarded br Education is no longer counted as experience br Our interactions with one another br Is no longer experience br They become experience (in the eyes of employers) by the documentation of a paycheck br To be qualified br We must be paid to interact with each other br We must be paid to use our knowledge br We must be paid to develop our skills br When in reality br We pay for our education ourselves br And in our education in which we pay br We interact and learn from others without demanding to be paid br In the eyes of the employer br Education is not experience br Eight years of college and achieving a P.H.D. br Is no longer experience br What employers don't realize is... br Education is a full-time job br A full time job that we do not get paid for br Education doesn't employ us br We employ education for ourselves br Yet...
