Kim Schilling - The Body Never Forgets

Kim Schilling - The Body Never Forgets

My body has learned by heart br What my eyes have long forgotten br Entrusted long ago with deadly visions br These entrenched dark and dangerous secrets br Guarded tightly by those faithful curators inside br Held in jagged pieces by little and big hands. br br I feel them there beneath my deadened skin br They use my hollow eyes to peer at the world br Kicking and screaming they feel the pain br Absorbing it, gripping it for the coward in me br My body shakes and trembles for them br I cannot escape completely, as we are one. br br Too big to be remembered for fear of consuming me br Too big to be forgotten for they won’t let me br Only in my dreams they haunt my tranquility br Moaning and weeping I see unrecognizable terror br Awakening to little ones crying and big ones irate br Fighting with myself I refuse to hear their messages. br br The wall of resistance deadens their ghostly wails br Walking onward with ambivalence through the day br My skin crawls with remnants of yesterday’s pain br Desperate clawing at my skull reminds me again br Evil that escaped my youthful mind br Is evil the body never forgets. br br br http: allpoetry.
