David DeSantis - An Ode To My Window

David DeSantis - An Ode To My Window

Dearest window, br You hold a view br Of images to taunt me forever. br Annoyances too many to br enumerate, br I will just state a few. br br A cessation it seems br of our hostilities, br Has been in order once br before, br Yet you fake access, br to something I want br And for that br you aren't forgiven. br br You see, br I thought i would br by gaining this job, br land a security blanket of sorts. br A “window” they said, br You should be happy br Most do not get what you do. br br Yet here I am, br A cubicle rat, br Albeit one with a window. br I find myself br like some minor new star, br you’re a petulant photographer at that br br Over and over in the same vein br It is in your face that I’m forced to stare, br Contemplating nothings br while wishing for something, br Your like “Megan” from high school. br br And even in central New York, br where br It is sometimes possible for sunlight, br You love to tease, br 'here, be hot', br I’d love to make a vase out of you. br br Underlying pity br for those who live br by not to live or to do br but instead they watch the world go by, br as a window can sometimes cage you. br br Damn you, br Damn you window, br these sensations are nothing if new. br A hammer I’ll buy br and window, br please, br br take care to invest in some glue.
