sathya narayana - MOTHER'S PLAINT

MOTHER’S PLAINT br Smoke pipes are sprouting br Far and wide like iron saplings br Spiking through her tender flesh br Piles of brick cement and stone br Invading her entrails, en masse br Building edifices for fancy contraptions br Of obsessive human endeavor to eclipse br His holy creation with mundane contrivance br br The gullible victim, poor Mother Earth br She whined and wailed in pain br Implored the eminent Unknown br What happened to thy covenants? My Lord! br That I shall bear thy seeds in my womb br Hatch them into herbs, shrubs and trees br Wear their greens as my attire br And adorn their flowers and fruits as embellishments br Let the Orioles and Nightingales to stage br Euphonious concerts on the radiating boughs br Allow pretty bunnies and sweet little squirrels br Trench and tickle my lush loam br br Was this not what thou devised and yearned? br A wholesome world of content br That caters to every need of every living soul br Unto their want and arrant fulfillment br But….what are these wicked contortions? br Have you…..My God conspired with thine own image? br To destroy thine own comeliest oeuvre br To trough and trickle venomous straits br Straight into ever loving heart br When in distraught we all sought thy succor br But, when thou mulct us for no fault br Whom shalt we beseech for comfort? br br Sathya….
