Nichita Stanescu - Burned Forest

Nichita Stanescu - Burned Forest

Black snow was falling. The tree line br shone when I turned to see - br I had wondered long and silent, br alone, trailing memory behind me. br br And it seemed the stars, fixed as they were, br ground their teeth, a stiffened nexus, br an infernal machine, tolling br the halted hours of conciousness. br br Then, a thick silence descends, br and my every gesture br leaves a comet tail in the heavens. br br And I hear evey glance I cast br as it echoes against br some tree. br br Child, what were you seeking there, br with your gangly arms and pointed shoulders br on which the wings were barely dry - br black snow drifting in the evening sky. br br A horizon howling, far from view, br darting its tongues and anthracite, br dragged me forever down the mute row, br my body, half naked, sliding from sight. br br In distances of smoke the town afire, br blazing beneath the planes, a frigid pyre.
