Leah Johnston - The Fair (Narrative Poem)

Leah Johnston - The Fair (Narrative Poem)

I walk beside him br Scared to death. br I smile trying not to show it. br He smirks back. br He knows I’m faking, br he knows I want to turn and run. br Run as fast as I can home. br Home- oh I wish to see it again. br Oh dear mama, br I love you. br I don’t want to die. br I’m only 8. br It looks so high br I climb on, green faced, br Heart pounding br Over under, over under br Loopdy loop, dive. br It’s all over, br The roller coaster of death. br I put my feet on the ground, br glad to see it on my own terms. br I look up at him laughing, br “I did it, I won the dare! ” I say.
