ANDREW BLAKEMORE - The Factories Have All Gone

The factories have all gone where once br The smoking stacks did stand, br So too their famous silhouettes br That stood upon this land, br The site now lying empty where br The grass and bush have grown, br Which cloak the scattered bricks that lie br With twisted iron and stone. br br The smogs have cleared revealing streets br Of red bricked terraced rows, br Some boarded up with missing slates br Through which the cold wind blows, br Where once the town was crowded br Now deserted and so bleak, br So many now have moved away br For work they had to seek. br br Yet since those factories there were built br So many years have passed, br Who would have thought those days would end br And disappear so fast, br Those families and communities br Have all been torn apart, br For now the town has lost its soul br So too its beating heart.
