In Chile, the pension system, which was privatized by the military dictatorship., is now managed by private administrators known as AFPs, most of which belong to US companies who make about 170 billion dollars in profits. For this reason, workers are demanding the state to implement a pension system based on solidarity, that would look after their rights to effective retirement, instead of focusing on protecting the capital accumulation interests.
