Jean Mallette - The Price Of Drugs

The price of drugs-heartache and tears; br And slamming cell doors-twenty years; br To fear our children, now possessed, br Our little ones we once caressed. br No more to crave a mama's arms, br They run from sirens and alarms. br Obsessed with desperations, strong, br They lose all conscience, see no wrong. br They take from loved ones without thought, br Not caring for the grief they wrought, br And bring disgrace, shame, and scorn br Upon the name their family's borne. br We cry aloud, 'How can this be? br Our son was raised with dignity. br Where did we err, when did we fail? br How could this evil hold prevail? ' br And through our tears we see no end, br The sentence that we now must spend, br The grief, the agony, alone, br In knowing that the child is gone, br And in his place a monster stands, br Possessed of demonical demands. br Oh God, we pray, release the child, br Set free his soul from rages, wild. br Help him to see the price too great br And that we, too, must share his fate. br Please give him strength to walk away br From Addiction's hold today; br And give him knowledge how to cope, br Please give us wisdom-give us hope. br Help us guide him back to Thee, br Please save his soul-please set him free! br br How great this price for drugs will be, br Until all of society br Shall rise together in one force, br Defeating Satan's evil course, br Demanding politicians meet br Their obligations to defeat br The Piper that has lured our babes, br And led them all to certain graves.
