Rani Turton - And Eternity Did Not Push Me Away

Rani Turton - And Eternity Did Not Push Me Away

Starlight, moonlight, candles burning bright br Oil lamps with flickering wicks br All this symbolises night br br In the noblest sense; in the sense of darkness br But soft darkness, not a terrifying void br br I can see in the distance br A path that runs between trees br A hill slumbers nearby and has done so br For ages; when the statues come to life br When the goddesses dances on leaves br br When the earth breathes but doesn't sigh br The mundane world fades away br br Was I dreaming when I heard the trees breathe br And saw the goddesses dancing on leaves? br When the river spoke to me br Softly, murmuring secrets only we knew br br Was I dreaming or was I awake when the breeze softly br Silently carressed my face br And whispered sweet things to my waiting ears? br br There is a lieu nearby here they say br Strange things can happen to people who go there br They can see things that do not exist br They can speak in several tongues br And understand every language in the world br br This strangeness attracts strangeness; I touched stone br And they seemed to respond. br The woods were a comfort, the earth was alive br To my questing feet. My body was free of earthly pain br My heart, for once was light br br And the mundane world faded away br For more than an instant, br I touched eternity and eternity for this time br Did not push me away.
