ANDREW BLAKEMORE - A Lonely Leaf

ANDREW BLAKEMORE - A Lonely Leaf

The tree does bend as winds do blow br A chill December air, br And yet a lonely leaf remains br Upon the dormant bough, br It's withered dry yet still it clings br By thread that's growing frail, br That soon will break it cannot last br Its end is nearing now. br br For there it hangs so limply yet br Keeps moving back and forth, br And sympathy does fill my heart br It could be me that's there, br When in the autumn of my life br My best days all behind, br With nothing to look forward to br Its loneliness I share. br br I rest against the mighty trunk br And look towards the sky, br Through dark and twisted talons br Which cast shadows on the land, br Yet still the lonely leaf remains br And bravely lingers on, br Yet I shall wait for it to fall br To catch it in my hand.
