Danny Reynolds - (022) How many poets does it take to put out a candle? (Re-post)

You’re not like a gas flame br or I would see a point of nothingness br at your base br That invisible rush of expectancy br br No, your whole body devours. br The crucified wick stands to attention br looks down in awe at your handywork br br Impurities which in the wax br gave lack of depth in solid shape br Now moulten, clear, transparently sheer. br encroach the rim, on route to where br br To abseil down the virgin shaft br First to spoil the un-rippled column. br Or race behind another’s track br leap-frogging as your molecules mourn to stillness br br Or dropp and set upon a child’s hand br They watch how quickly you change br from lava flow br to bathing caps for their fingertips. br br Light and warmth and dancing flame br Dreamer’s magnet, pulling in br The trawler’s nets full of visions br br I snuff you to sleep br and walk away. br As you wave goodnight br with your ribbons of smoke.
