Linda Winchell - 'Childhood Memories'

Linda Winchell - 'Childhood Memories'

I use to sharpen the teacher's pencils br I erased the chalk from our classroom boards. br I always waited for you out at recess br by the swing sets or under a sliding board. br br I carried your books for you to class br like any good friend would do. br But one day you forgot, of who I was br in that time that I knew of you. br br My name is of no importance now br I'm a face you wouldn't even know. br But as children sharing cookies and milk br these are those Childhood Memories I hold. br br Your desk was right in front of mine br I remember the smell, of your braided shampooed hair. br And when you were home, with some sickness unknown br I made sure to go sit in your chair. br br I carved my initials in the top of your desk br and surrounded it with a heart. br Was hoping one day, while you were away br to give your initials their beginning, their start. br br I was moved and never got my chance br to finish what was I had started. br But one day I hope, to send you this note br Telling you how sad, that are lives have parted. br br Maybe you'll find, some memories of mine br in a moment you bring to thought. br Then you will see, what your memories have meant to me br in a childhood memory of me you lost.
