Stephanie Dower - What I saw in the fire.

Stephanie Dower - What I saw in the fire.

I sat alone in a darkened room. br The fireplace warmed me to the core. br I gazed with tired eyes into the fire, br And was shocked at what I saw. br br The flames first licked hungrily br At the large oaken logs. br Now shimmering hunters, br Following a pack of dogs. br Caught in an eternal chase, br They bounded across the wood. br Their prey, a fleeing deer, br Running as fast as it could. br br Then the fires died down. br And shot back up to form, br A set of angry clouds, br Rolling in a storm. br A blink and the scene changed br Back into a calm glade. br A merry fawn with flute br Dancing as it played. br br I shook my head and rubbed my eyes. br I looked back in the flame. br No beasts, no storm, no music. br Only fire and embers remain.
