Janice Windle - (Italian Collection) More Poems from a Balcony on the Amalfi Coast.

Here are some more of the poems I wrote while staying on the Amalfi Coast in October 2008, with my lover Dónall. They are all based on little paintings I was doing in a book of beautiful soft Amalfi paper. When I've filled the book with poems and pictures I'll print copies. I have twenty more double pages to fill! br br 1. Olive Wood br br The olive rails round our little Eden br contain in their knotted surfaces: br br the eyes of basilisks, br the craters of erupting mountains, br br the horned brows of iguanas br and coiled foetuses of unborn sirens br br which with my sun-filled eye and pen br I release on soft Amalfi paper. br br br 2. Haiku br br Sky's eye passionate, br gazing on land the sun loves... br white noon heat pours down. br br 3. Haiku br br Sun paints a pattern br happy dance of leaves in wall br ants and gekkos climb. br br 4. Haiku br br Blue shadows of vines, br arabesque of leaves dancing br white wall garlanded. br br 5. Dinner in Amalfi br br Our host, straight faced, brings bread br wrapped in brown paper, lights our red alcove br with a stylish candle flame. Outside in early dusk, br children's games and cheerful shouts br of pirate-faced Amalfitani. br br Inside, a Pompeiian crimson glow br reflects in mirrors that throw candle flicker br from ruby wall to gilded frame. br And we, end-of-season tourists, br delight in the coppa mocha, br in the dryness of the wine and the waiter's wit, br and above all, in each other's company.
