Naseer Ahmed Nasir - * Whirling Death

Naseer Ahmed Nasir - * Whirling Death

I am maddened by the br Death-knock. br In a frenzy I run, br for the many chores to be done... br From the stillness of mountains and lakes br to hear ancient songs, br to unravel mysteries of tales from the past, br of trees to enquire after br the business of growth, br to watch the ever-changing br shapes of clouds, br through sweet-voiced, goodly birds br seek the source of divine fruits, br touch flowers of a blushing creeper, br make conversation br with doorways and walls. br So many visitors still wait; br a long list of unseen vistas br beheld in the eyes, pounds br in the veins, br exploding them any moment, br but I am busy, br in a flurry to carry out the chores... br The ocean calls, br islands and coastlines br for aeons have longed for me. br They haunt me, the fishermen br singing songs as they return br to their abodes; br some day I'll pay them a visit... br Enchanting lands br restively wait br to reveal their many treasures; br paths are not unknown to me, br in the old wooden trunk, lie safe br the maps; br I can also discern the melody of gods, br but I am busy... br So much to be done for the children. br Books and notebooks, br school uniforms, new bags, br toys, bats and rackets br and so much more that is br yet unsaid, br will make them happy br if I buy for them, br but I am busy, br have to see through so many chores... br Faster now, blood rushes br through the veins; br life is possessed by the frenzy of Death. br Busy I am, br hurriedly scribbling poem after poem, br maddened by the Death-knock.
