Alexander Steen Stewart - The Pretentious Carter

Alexander Steen Stewart - The Pretentious Carter

A beautiful day in spring br And the carters get on their way br To chop and fetch and carry wood br As is their job br But one carter, Chief in his own mind br Is bound by chains of time, br As is befitting he must keep his cart br in line with the fashion of the day br Naturally then all must follow his line of thought br And mock those who follow tradition br As is their nature br But fashion's wheels as with the carts br Are always moving br So the Carter's cart heavy with each new fashion, br becomes a lurid mess br And yet he claims individuality? br Isn't individuality just conformity by another name? br What this Carter fails to see br Is that regardless of the method of conveyance br The end result remains the same. br A poems still a poem be it modern or archaic.
