Dan Jordan - Life in the trenches

Shells are exploding br Rapidly above my trench, br They blow themselves to br Pieces with all of the br Enemies hatred and rage. br The tremendous blast is br Overwhelming; my ears br can not cope with the br Exploding rage; gloomy, br Deep red blood is beginning br To pour out from my br Shell-shocked ear drums. br br It is impossible to avoid the br Horror-stricken sight of br One of my mates wailing br And screaming in agony, as br They die a very slow and cumbersome br Death. br br My colonel shouted, “Into no man's land you go! ” br There's no time to prepare for the hell of a battle br Which awaits me. I feel a shudder of anxiety br Tingle down my spine; as the dark and mysterious br Shadows of no man's land hang solemnly above br My trench, and into the depths of the murky br And eerie mud below. br br I must put all of those terrible and br Patronising thoughts and sights aside, br For it is my destiny to climb br Over the flesh shredding barbed wire, br And venture deep into no man's land.
