Lonnie Hicks - Beauty-See Beauty-Don't

There was in her face, br in the contours of her br beauty lines br a past smoothing out br which I could see br would match br her older photographs. br br The older her br only hinted at br that prior br state. br br But I took my time br to look at her br now past 55 br to see br in that older landscape br what my eye br sought br in her face at twenty and five.. br br Could not the face br before me br be seen br on its own terms? br br Where is that beauty br line between br beauty and non-beauty? br br Is it the tightness of the skin br the twinkle in the eye, br healthy look or br non-healthy look? br br What's true is that br my own Western br eye br can only see age; br not nobility; br br only TV screen beauty- br not maturity. br br But you know br there are a myriad of exceptions; br br children don't see age br the same way we do br br nor does most of the world.
