Sadiqullah Khan - When You Were Dancing

Sadiqullah Khan - When You Were Dancing

Her hands were holding the moon in firm grip br Like dreams she might not she knew one day br In dark of the night she will seek all life br Like God I peeped into the kitten's play br With a ball of wool the luminosity in her eyes br After a long sleep before the disorder would strike br A bit of creation from the God’s eye br The rain was heavy to wash the face of earth br From the fireworks and dried blood br When for shelter some children ran in fear br A rich man bought feelings with riches br br The rape was not as fabulous br The aphrodisiacs all in the pouch br Were not used and in cozy environs br The souls were sold to protect the vitals br The distant peripheries for the strings br In puppet shows in the name of God br All streams were colored from the spring holy br br When she moved her body fatale br My love like soul in silent whispers br In ethereal vapors and like the atoms br The astronomer says shall one day dissolve br For lack of the pull in the gravity br Behind closed doors now I shall not br When love is what for my restless soul yearns br I tried in vain but to look into the future br I need to forget my memory to get back br All was not love but still on my palms br And the many signs and lines that I draw br From star to star I still remain there br But alas in those rhythmic movements br When you were dancing under the moon br (To an unknown Palestinian Girl) br 2012009 br br P.S There are three parts in this poem. The first is the innocence, then the carnage, then the dialogue, the grants of money, then the regret of the ‘aggressor” (second stanza) and at the end the future and the fate depicting glimpses of her beauty.
