ANDREW BLAKEMORE - I Thought My Eyes Were Stinging

I thought my eyes were stinging br Till I saw a blind man pass, br I thought my legs were aching br Till I saw a cripple there, br I thought that I had nothing br Then a beggar on the street, br Asked me for a penny br That I placed within his hand. br br I thought my clothes were tatty br Till I saw a lowly tramp, br Who sheltered from the bitter cold br In nothing more than rags, br I thought that I was hungry br Till I saw him feed upon, br The bread thrown for the pigeons br In the dirty market square. br br I complained about the noises br Till I heard a deaf man say, br He longed to hear the songbirds br That did sing upon the bough, br I knew then I was lucky br And so many worse than I, br I thanked the Lord for what I had br Then went upon my way.
