Sandra Martyres - Standing Tall after a Fall

Sandra Martyres - Standing Tall after a Fall

You will my friend recall br The day you made me fall br O what a terrible fall it was br When I realised the cause br Your Mother had chosen for you br Which is what most good Mothers do br A gentle, obedient and perfect bride br She left you no choice but to quickly decide br That our friendship had to be set aside br br Of course you tried to explain to me br That I could never hope to be br Fully accepted into your family br Being a foreigner and well-educated br I was a bit too liberated br To ever get integrated br Into a conservative Indian household br Where women do whatever they are told br br So your promises had to be broken br And the price you paid was just a small token br To meet a really noble cause - your filial duty br For which you said God would compensate me br There was no need for me to be upset br I could my eyes on another more eligible guy set br And with those comforting words you disappeared br Leaving me teary eyed, shocked and deeply disturbed br br Now after all these long years br I no longer shed for you any more tears br In fact I even thank you for dispelling my fears br For leading me to discover new friends br Who happily did a helping hand extend br To pull me out of a state of despair br And help me my broken heart to repair br That terrible bad dream I no longer recall br I am now standing tall after the fallbr br Sandra Martyresbr br
