Naseer Ahmed Nasir - Snapshot

Night hidden behind that hillock br Hasn't peeped out so far br The ocean of darkness br Hasn't become turbulent till now br As yet black snakes br Hanging from arms of the clock br Stare at us with red ambers of their eyes br As yet with bated breath br The wolf of time br Waits behind blood-strewn sand dunes br For ripped-open body of the sun. br Surrounded by shadows - green and fresh br The shimmering cold water in the blue lake br Has as yet not become br Acquainted with br Swelling waves of strangeness br In our eyes. br br Welcome...... as it is...... br The frozen caravan of silent moments br And the unacquainted water br Stay. br br Pay heed to me, O stranger, br My co- traveller br Ere the silent ticking of the clock br Turns into an explosion br And declares the sun's demise, br Shall we br Preserve through the camera's eye br This meeting of ours br On the blind screen of feelings...... br With the waning, blood-red br Picture of receding evening's myriad scenes? br And thus fill the empty cup br Of our desires with innocent happiness? br br (1975, Translated by Dr.
