Rani Turton - Pity When You Tore My Heart

Pity, when you tore my heart br I saw the world through different eyes br I saw the leper and the beggar and the lies br br I saw the wounded, the sick and the homeless br I imagined sleeping in the rain br I imagined all my wordly possessions in a bag br br I saw the tramps under the bridges br The tribes of beggars, the silent old br The solitude of millions tramping from work br Who had nobody to talk to br br I remembered those who lost their jobs br And the thousands who lost their homes br I remembered those who had nothing to lose, br Who had nothing to lose br Never had anything to lose, nothing, never. br br Pity I looked at the world through different eyes br Thinking about my good fortune and luck br Until, until one day I realised I could be pitied br By the poorest who lived in a shack br br Seeing my restlessness and anguish br Even when things were going well br My selfish world, peopled with myself br Pity in poor people's eyes br My world, my ambitions and my disguise.
