The Ecuadoran government is investing 5 billion dollars in the construction of 8 hydroelectric plants that will allow the nation to double its energy capacity. At the same time, it will generate energy integration between Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Ecuador will save billions annually by producing 90 of its own energy, and benefit other Andean connections via a 500,000 volt interconnection line.
