Max Reif - On a Saturday Afternoon in Spring

Out of doors, the whole world's br like a songbird, radantly alive, br getting ready to soar aloft, br br till I turn and walk br down the stairs br to the asphalt carport. br br How dim br is that black substance, br how dully my heart br reflects back from it, br br but I cease reflecting br as above a great bird, br wings of perfect symmetry outspread, br glides in arcs drawn br by a compass in the Hand of God. br br He spirals like a paper airplane, br alighting high in a gum-oak tree, br br yielding the sky to his mate br who appears, circles, br and disappears br into the same tree.
