James McIlhatton - Golden Memories

James McIlhatton - Golden Memories

Golden memories of childhood that are gone br Happy nights by the fireside with stories, games and songs br WIth a kind, caring Mother br And a Dad who also cared br After supper together then to bed up the stairs. The home it was a humble place br And luxuries were few br Vegetables were home grown, with cabbage and 'tatoes too br A turn fire burned so pleasantly br With smoke of scented blue br The cozy bed had hand-sewn quilts br Of every colour and hue. Alas, the old house is empty now br No footsteps grace the floor br No voices in the living-room br No welcome at the door br No smell of cooking in the kitchen br How I miss the happy sounds br That made the home a special place br Now loneliness abounds.
