Nkululeko Mdudu - 12: 11: 12

I remember days when I sat alone br In the dark, with savage beasts br Dancing beside me. br All the while my greatest hazard br Was the thought. But then you came in, br Turned on the light and, with an br Uninteligible smile, watched the monsters br Disappear. Then you walked br Towards me and stood like the leaning tower br Which came down hard with the words: br 'Ufuna ni apha? ' br 'What do you seek here? ' br br Of all the thousands of words br Running through my mind br I could only reach for one: br Me... br Half asking, half telling, br Addressed to you and I. br Then you turned 'round br Without a sound, and left; br You turned the light off br But left the door half open br With your light shining beyond. br br Oh body of my soul! br Slowly you walked, br But you walked, dammit! br And you left me lying there, br Head on bed, heart on hands; br Limbs, bones, breath, br Feeling detached from myself. br So now you go ahead br And make the report. br I know you hate paper-work br But you, you were the one br That found me.
