Joyce Hemsley - America - Ellis Island

Joyce Hemsley - America - Ellis Island

In days of long ago, br how did Europeans enter America? br I read the history and now I know. br They arrived at Ellis Island br at the mouth of the Hudson River br often on a sunny day, but sometimes br they would shiver. br br The Island was given a second name... br 'Isle of Tears' as when immigrants br failed the acceptance test, they br cried away their fears. But millions br of hopefuls were invited to set foot br in America, to live out their dreams br and fantasies forever and a day, br thankful for the gift which brought br success their way. br br Beginning of the eighteenth century br Britain's Samuel Ellis gave his name br bringing more interest and immigrants br to an Island of prosperity and fame. br Mothers and fathers came with children, br I mention just a few... Irving Berlin, br Claudette Colbert, Sam Goldwyn, br Bob Hope, Al Johnson ~ and many more, br finding success through Ellis Island door. br br Note: The Ellis Island is not used now, br having been declared a Natonal Historic br Site in 1965 by Johnson.
