Consistency and symmetry br combined with meter seem to be br Ingredients of good poetry. br Though modernists will disagree. br br They take a different point of view. br Convinced that anything will do br That writers need not follow rules br and those who do they see as fools br br br Consider rhyming is a crime br and meter just a waste of time. br But can this kind of writing last? br like that of poets from the past. br br I don’t dispute they have the right br to choose the way in which they write. br Poetic prose can be divine br but not if it lacks discipline. br br Your writing must be coherent. br A well established precedent br If what you write does not make sense. br What can be said in its defence? br br If readers cannot comprehend br the message which you try to send br Because your meaning is not plain. br Perhaps its time to think again. br br And realise there must be rules. br A craftsman has to know his tools. br If he does not then he will fail br his efforts all to no avail. br br Some readers will choose poetry br and others prose preferably br It is your reader’s right to choose br to read your writings or refuse. br br If you don’t cater to their needs br don’t be surprised if no one reads. br If how you write is too obscure. br Then change your style.
