Bindu Vidyadhar - A Day Of A Five Year Old

“Mamma, I have homework to do, br How can I manage without you? ” br She calls out to me every evening in despair br My little daughter of five, pretty and fair br br She climbs up onto my knees slowly and gently br To get there she plots and schemes so intelligently br She thinks her little plans I do not know br With difficulty I keep a straight face so that it doesn’t show br br She is most comfortable doing her homework perched on my lap br For her homework I have to put on my thinking cap br Diligently she finishes her work stifling a yawn br The little angel was up and about since dawn br br Every morning she looks forward for a ride in the school bus br About her uniform and shoes she makes a big fuss br She’s particular that it’s clean and always neatly pressed br I’m on my toes to see that she is not depressed br br Homework all done, dressed and ready br She says goodbye to her cuddly teddy br For the school bus to arrive she waits in anticipation br In the bus there are her friends; I see her face brighten br br Thus begins another day in the life of my five year old angel br So lively, energetic, happy and zestful br I’ll miss all this action when you are grownup br Fond memories will return when with wrinkled hands I sip from my teacup. br br 06.07.
