Lonnie Hicks - A War Flower

They took all the flowers br and taught them how to shoot guns; br br the tulips learned to emit poison gas br and the roses, my god the roses br were used to hide the blood stains br on the carpeting. br br It was war; br all out war they said br and everything had to be used br because all was to be used br to ensure ultimate victory. br br Dead trees were gnawed at the center br and taught to toppled themselves on unwary Geraniums marching. br br The Lialics laid down hand grenades br in front and in the back of enemy Orchid buds. br br The outcry against: 'flower power' was immense br 'an atrocity' said many br but it did not stop. br Pigeons and dolphins learned to carry bombs; br dogs became spotters for sniper's guns; br elephants trampled the flower beds br and marched with; the infantry. br br All of nature bent to war's intent br and paid the ultimate price on bloodied battlefields- br the flowers going straight to funerals- br no need to send remembrances br since br their fresh flower carcasses were already present br bullet ridden and bleeding. br br So every tree, animal and plant br was used to disembowel the ecology- br misshapened and bent to Foul Intent br in the grey dawn br cracking- br artillery shells smoking and spent br bullet casings strewn about; br dead flora br dead fauna; br haphazardly arranged dying flowers br their petals weeping.
