Lonnie Hicks - Hero Stuff

Lonnie Hicks - Hero Stuff

The climbing high was stone by stone br bloodied hands and striated hearts br scattered behind on the trail; br some crying years br and many happy ones; br but our life has been to be sure an upward struggle br to mountain climb, one after another. br br Yet at each boulder and rock you offered me br a rope and line br and each time lifted up br me along with your self. br br How can a climber of rocks lift both self br and another, but you do so and have done. br This is hero stuff and you are mine. br br Beaten back and beaten down you surpassed br all that br was placed in your path and humor greeted br each strife and set-back. br br The twinkled eye-your mischievous grin- br took its place at every battle scene br and you emerged from smoke and hue br unscathed, both us and you. br This is hero stuff. br br I lay down my Cloth of Gold in salute br for you to step upon br for I am sure your foot will only lightly touch- br nay float above- br not because you are divinity br but because you take life lightly as it comes- br good humor, allows you to float- br scaling every mountain such br that it becomes an adventure it seems br characterizing the scaling up br and that is because of you my dear. br You are hero stuff.
