Buddha met three Kashyapa br Brothers at City Uruvela. br They worshipped Agni (fire) daily. br People respected them religiously. br br Buddha met the eldest one. br He asked him permission br To spend the night time br In the sacred fire room. br br Kashyapa, in fear, said, br “Don’t stay there, I’m afraid, br A serpent there will bite you, br And it’s dangerous for you.” br br “Don’t worry, ” he replied, br “I’ll not be killed. br Have no fear. br Let me stay there.” br br Kashyapa then allowed him br In that sacred fire room. br Buddha spent the night br In Meditation sitting upright. br br The serpent came to bite br But it saw love in his sight br And went back to its place br Without leaving any trace. br br Next day, the host saw br Buddha alive, with awe, br And honored the guest, br Thereafter with full respect. br br To participate in a festival, br There came many people. br He felt, Buddha was a nuisance, br And he might lose importance. br br His feelings, Buddha understood br And somewhere disappeared. br After the festival was over br Back Buddha came there. br br When Kashyapa asked br Buddha coolly replied, br “Since you never wanted me here br I was hiding myself somewhere.” br br Kashyapa was surprised, br “How could Buddha read br Inside my mind so easily. br A mind-reader, he’s really.” br br “Envy is not holy, ” Buddha told. br Such occult powers, he possessed. br Kashyapa Brothers then realized. br As monks in Sangha, they joined.
