ANDREW BLAKEMORE - Evening Skies

ANDREW BLAKEMORE - Evening Skies

I stood in deep and reverent awe br And looked upon those evening skies, br A rich and seamless sea of gold br That through the clouds did weave, br As shadows fell so long and dark br And crept across the grassy field, br Then slowly melted to the dusk br That still September's eve. br br The embers smouldered in the hearth br As warming coals that held the light, br In rings of peace then floated by br And cooled as they went past, br Till swallowed by the mouth of time br And lost unto the ash that fell, br Each took away a part of me br Like dreams that could not last. br br The trees then touched the fading hues br And stood like autumn silhouettes, br Above the sleeping foreground br As their branches calmly rose, br A breathless hush then filled the air br Upon the setting of the sun, br Those fingered rays before me shone br As day drew to a close.
