King Ajatashatru heard br That Devedatta had died. br He had lost his best friend, br Who stood ever by his side. br br He imprisoned his father, br And then killed him there. br On the advice of Devadatta br He tried to kill Buddha. br br All the great sins he did br In return, they paid br In the form of disease, br With painful blisters. br br Doctors treated him in vain. br He couldn’t bear the pain. br Buddha sent a physician, br Who gave him proper medicine. br br For his sins, he repented. br Before Buddha, he begged br To be excused for his deed, br Which, on him, recoiled. br br Taking pity, Buddha cured br Both his body and mind. br He then joined Sangha, br As a disciple, served Buddha. br br Buddha’s father sent word br That he was in death bed. br Buddha rushed to see him. br But he died in his son’s arms. br br After the King Shuddhodana br The entire clan of Shakya br Battled among themselves br For position and powers. br br Buddha continued to travel br And helped suffering people. br Even when he was very old, br He served them till the end.
