Ahmad Shiddiqi - Ode 2

Ahmad Shiddiqi - Ode 2

While candles of Shanghai gleamed on br Sang her one hero, destiny's passionate orison br Whence melodious chimes proclaim bleakest day br With those thick lotus-blooms the Winter winds play br br In Empress Wu Ze Tian's unique coronet she weareth br An ancient satue in her arms she beareth br With her low, tender gesture of mystery br She telleth Gorbachev the unrequited history br br The deep weather, and nuns singing, and butterflies flying br We have painted a dock that is not for Love's throwing br And interested in white horses with a royal wage br And we have passed by the patriotic heritage br br Touched stars, jewels and cheeks, all those are ended br Slumber and waking, adored, vanished proudly friended br No mockeries now for students; no prayers nor bells br Nor any sound of evening lead the Wagnerian choirsbr br Ahmad Shiddiqibr br
