I was born, way before the 90's br When life, was not so fast, br When things were cheap and cheerful - but br Always made to last. br br No electric iron, br With buttons pressing steam, br You got an old wet tea towel - and br Pressed along the seam. br br No electric blanket, br To make you, snug and warm, br 'Twas just a coat, thrown on the bed, br All tatty and well worn. br br No electric washer, br Instead - a Dolly Tub, br No electric mangle, br Just a dam good rub! br br No fangled vacuum cleaner, br With tools, for everyone, br 'Twas an old Bex Bissell sweeper, br That you just pushed along! br br Oh yes, we do remember, br When life was not so fast, br When things were bought for pennies - but br We knew that they would last! - and br br Yes we sure remember, br That life was sometimes hard - but br Oh what a laugh, we all did have - br As we played in our back-yard! - and br br Mother she would call us, and br Say 'It's time for tea' - and br After, it was bath time, br Our hearts would fill with glee! br br A bath so full of water, br We thought that we would drown, br We splashed about, and threw some out - br Oh Mother, she would frown! - for br br The water, it was precious, and br Must be shared amongst us all, br The old ones, they would go in first - and br You'd be last, if you were small. br br Oh yes, I do remember, br The days when we were young, br The fun we've had - the joy we've had - and br The Songs, that we have sung. br br I'll leave you for a moment, br With quiet thoughts, alone..... br For memories that are in your heart, br No-one else, can ever own! br br ***** br br With Love to all those who remember.........
