David Taylor - A Poem For Christmas Day

David Taylor - A Poem For Christmas Day

Deep dark nothingness, br (empty, still): br so say the eyes that wander, br across the space between, br seeing, not seeing, and seeing not; br as the lonely star br speeds across the heavens. br br We follow the star br (seeing it not) br and even in the darkness, br as we exalt its splendor br from so many centuries past, br we see only darkness between. br br Then that darkness, br (in mind’s eye known) br to be full of light br that has no object to be lit; br full of knowledge br waiting for its question; br full of existence br with no need to exist. br br And then; br then the new born br (residing in all hearts) br declares; br you are the star br that lights the dark. br br We know not what we are; br and wise men write br (so that it might not be forgotten) , br that which cannot be held in memory; br is never lost.
