Lillian Susan Thomas - *Children of Grief

Lillian Susan Thomas - *Children of Grief

A baby is God's opinion that the world should go on." br ? Carl Sandburg br br In the days after 911 br All over New York City, br Babies were born, some came weeks early. br Even across the country the birth rate hiccuped a little. br People began calling them br "Children of grief" and "children of fear" br From all the stress and anxiety br Those mothers went through, br no matter if they lost someone close to them or not. br But surely God wished to comfort us br For all those gathered to paradise in their prime. br The streets of heaven were crowded br That day with heroes and accountants, br Firemen and secretaries, soldiers and lawyers. br Perhaps some souls had to leave God's side br To make room for all the new occupants. br br And is it not said, br "Every child brings into the world br Their own blessing, " br Yes, we need that grace in the worst way. br So it rained babies. br And from New York it went out br Across the land. br As the light from the top of the towers br Went out forever, br A beacon of hope in our hearts br Took its place and each br Infant carried a spark.
