Ian Bowen - A Seasonal Look*

The pale pink blooms br of busy, spring avenues, br glow in a warm light. br Tables and chairs spill br onto wide pavements; br where coffee and cakes br hide in the shade br of coloured umbrellas. br Waiters, white and starched, br look under plates for tips br and stare downward, br on newly suntanned breasts. br br The dark green leaves br of busier, summer avenues br shimmer in a searing light. br Tables and chairs spill br onto crowded pavements; br where cold drinks and ice cream br rapidly melt, beneath br colour-fading umbrellas. br Waiters, white and starched br look under plates for tips br and stare downward br on now nut-brown breasts. br br Fallen leaves, br clutter gutters, and later br crystal shards of ice br will hang above empty avenues; br too white and bright. br Tables, chairs and umbrellas br will hide redundant in cellars. br Waiters, white and starched, br will amble behind closed doors, br still looking under plates, but br not bothering to stare downward... br br on now woolen covered breasts.
