Kannan G - (H - Baba Amte - 1994) Worship of Work

All grim prejudice to work br He scrupulously shed; br He grew grace in such work br Which by ignorance lay degraded. br Human waste he deliberately, br Carried on his head. br “Work br With the people br Not br For the people”, he said. br His compassionate vision br And his passionate mission br Into undiluted action br Translated he ever. br With a philosophic wisdom br His work he executed. br With a messianic zeal br Was it ever saturated. br A contagious will br He exuded. br Through a rigorous path br He himself led. br He sweated. br He bled. br Still he never regretted. br For he had decided br That he would come out br Undefeated. br Living a common life br He won an uncommon strife. br He wore worn out rubber br To identify himself br With his impoverished brethren. br With shovel and scythe br He had established love. br For him none was below br And none above. br For him no labour was mean, br No labour, unclean, br When done with heart and soul, br When done for the good of the whole. br Even when his body, br Over worked and over burdened, br Played too much of cruelty, br He would not quit. br He worked tirelessly. br He worked zealously. br A variety of causes br He embraced passionately. br “Work is Worship”, says he. br And this devotee br Had all his life br Been worshiping Work br In silence and with piety.
