Kannan G - (I - Baba Amte - 1994) Worship of the Leprosy-Afflicted

The temple of body br Lay in ruins rocked by disease; br The innermost shrine br Lay ravaged, piece by piece. br This evangelic devotee br Who worshiped his brethren br Writhing in pain, br Could his devotion br Never restrain. br He took up the task br With courage. br So the temple stood again br Open to pilgrimage. br Its facade now br A little disfigured lay; br A few pillars now br Stood in disarray; br Still the shrine was now br Restored its lost glory br For this inspired devotee br Knew that the soul br And not the body br Was what was more precious br And holy. br He always treated br The wounds outside br But took more care br To heal the wounds inside. br Took more care br To feel and heal br The feelings beaten br The feelings frozen br The feelings stolen.
