Ada Cambridge - Holy Communion

Father, for Jesus' sake, br Low at the footstool of Thy throne, I pray br That Thou, into Thine arms of love, to-day br My trembling soul wilt take. br br Thine eyes can see, I know, br How many a dark and fearful spot of sin br Stains the white garment Thou didst clothe it in, br Once undefiled as snow. br br I dare not come alone br Into Thy presence for that sin to plead; br But there is One who waits to intercede— br Whose merits will atone. br br Into the holy place br He takes the incense of our common prayer, br Which, mingling with His own, ascendeth there br Up to Thy throne of grace. br br All too unclean it is, br Too cold and weak, above this earth to rise, br Save He, in love eternal, sanctifies br And hallows it with His. br br Therefore accept from me, br Through His hands, now, my weak and wavering will; br And deign my heart's deep longing to fulfil, br As it seems best to Thee. br br Pour down Thy healing light br Into the dark depths of my soul this day; br Dissolve the mists and shadows—oh, I pray, br Let it no more be night! br br Spirit of love, reveal br All hidden sins against Thy blessed name, br That I may weep for them in utter shame br As in Thy, church I kneel. br And now, oh cleanse them out! br Make fair again Thine olden dwelling-place; br And let the fruitful streams of love and grace br Compass it round about. br br Lord, with repentance, give br Faith, deep and strong, that naught may undermine br Of all that's evil in this world of Thine— br Faith that shall breathe and live. br br Pour from the hallow'd cup br Our dear Lord's stainless life into mine own; br Put it to my soul's lips—so thirsty grown— br And let them drink it up.
