Nizar Qabbani - Maritime Poem

In the blue harbor of your eyes br Blow rains of melodious lights, br Dizzy suns and sails br Painting their voyage to endlessness. br br In the blue harbor of your eyes br Is an open sea window, br And birds appear in the distance br Searching for islands still unborn. br br In the blue harbor of your eyes br Snow falls in July. br Ships laden with turquoise br Spill over the sea and are not drowned. br br In the blue harbor of your eyes br I run on the scattered rocks like a child br Breathing the fragrance of the sea br And return an exhausted bird. br br In the blue harbor of your eyes br Stones sing in the night. br Who has hidden a thousand poems br In the closed book of your eyes? br br If only, if only I were a sailor, br If only somebody'd give me a boat, br I would furl my sails each evening br In the blue harbor of your eyes.
