John Keats - A Galloway Song

John Keats - A Galloway Song

Ah! ken ye what I met the day br Out oure the Mountains br A coming down by craggi[e]s grey br An mossie fountains -- br A[h] goud hair'd Marie yeve I pray br Ane minute's guessing -- br For that I met upon the way br Is past expressing. br As I stood where a rocky brig br A torrent crosses br I spied upon a misty rig br A troup o' Horses -- br And as they trotted down the glen br I sped to meet them br To see if I might know the Men br To stop and greet them. br First Willie on his sleek mare came br At canting gallop -- br His long hair rustled like a flame br On board a shallop. br Then came his brother Rab and then br Young Peggy's Mither br And Peggy too -- adown the glen br They went togither -- br I saw her wrappit in her hood br Fra wind and raining -- br Her cheek was flush wi' timid blood br 'Twixt growth and waning -- br She turn'd her dazed head full oft br For there her Brithers br Came riding with her Bridegroom soft br And mony ithers. br Young Tam came up an' eyed me quick br With reddened cheek -- br Braw Tam was daffed like a chick -- br He coud na speak -- br Ah Marie they are all gane hame br Through blustering weather br An' every heart is full on flame br Ah! Marie they are all gone hame br Fra happy wedding, br Whilst I -- Ah is it not a shame? br Sad tears am shedding.
