John Keats - Sonnet: Before He Went

John Keats - Sonnet: Before He Went

BEFORE he went to feed with owls and bats br Nebuchadnezzar had an ugly dream, br Worse than an Hus'if's when she thinks her cream br Made a Naumachia for mice and rats. br So scared, he sent for that 'Good King of Cats' br Young Daniel, who soon did pluck away the beam br From out his eye, and said he did not deem br The sceptre worth a straw his Cushions old door-mats. br A horrid nightmare similar somewhat br Of late has haunted a most motley crew, br Most loggerheads and Chapmen we are told br That any Daniel tho' he be a sot br Can make the lying lips turn pale of hue br By belching out 'ye are that head of Gold.
