Edgar Albert Guest - A Christmas Greeting

Edgar Albert Guest - A Christmas Greeting

Here's to you, little mother, br With your boy so far away; br May the joy of service smother br All your grief this Christmas day; br May the magic of his splendor br Thrill your spirit through and through br And may all that's fine and tender br Make a smiling day for you. br br May you never know the sadness br That from day to day you dread; br May you never find but gladness br In the Flag that's overhead; br May the good God watch above him br As he stands to duty stern, br And at last to all who love him br May he have a safe return. br br Little mother, take the blessing br Of a grateful nation's heart; br May the news that is distressing br Never cause your tears to start; br May there be no fears to haunt you, br And no lonely hours and sad; br May your trials never daunt you, br But may every day be glad. br br Little Mother, could I do it, br This my Christmas gift would be: br That he'd safely battle through it, br This to you I'd guarantee. br And I'd pledge to you this morning br Joys to banish all your cares, br Gifts of gold and silver scorning, br I would answer all your prayers.
